Our Official IX Web Hosting Review.

IX Web Hosting has been in business since 2007. They’re an Ohio-based company with over 250,000 clients from around the world. The notable feature about IX Web Hosting is that they are specifically focused on search engine optimization.

Best Features of IX Web Hosting.

If SEO is something that you’re particularly worried about, IX Web hosting may fit the bill.

Free, Dedicated IP Address.

There are some things you can take care of on your own to optimize your site for search engines, and then there are some things that you can’t change once they’re in place. IX Web Hosting takes this a step further by offering every client a free, dedicated IP address. This is a feature that usually costs extra with other Web hosting providers. It’s not infinitely free – IX Web Hosting will charge you extra if you require more than one dedicated IP address, but the first one is free.

They Own Their Own Data Center.

Although this is something that many Web hosting companies have, it’s also something that many others do not. Owning your own data center as a Web hosting provider enables a level of customization that renting a data center cannot afford. This allows IX Web Hosting to run their company the way they want. What this means for you is that IX Web Hosting is empowered to take care of you the way they need to.

Personal Support Representative.

Hands down, this is one of the most unique features I’ve come across. Whenever you have an issue, you’re assigned a personal support representative. You are given the name of this representative and it is their task to make sure that your problem is solved promptly. What does this matter? I’m glad you asked. It means that you have one point of contact who is aware of your problem and is empowered to do what is necessary to solve whatever issues you may have.

You Get What You Need.

Every package comes with enough features for you to host your website. Some of their features are extra, but – at a baseline – they are not necessary. It’s nice to know that you’re not paying extra for each and every feature that you want. When hosting providers do this, it makes me feel like they’re trying to nickel and dime me. I don’t like it when I feel like I have to pay a couple extra dollars per month for each and every feature that I deem necessary to host my website. I can see the logic behind it – it enables customers to customize their packageto only pay for the features they need, but it also feels as if they’re trying to get every last penny out of me that they can. That’s not the case with IX Web Hosting. While they do offer extra features that cost extra, everything you need to run your website is included in your package.

99.9 Percent Uptime Guarantee.

This is something that bears looking into deeper. Although they do offer a 99.9 percent uptime guarantee, they don’t tell you how they might compensate you if your website goes down. In the 30 days that I tried them out, I didn’t experience any downtime. I turned to social media to find out if anyone has ever complained about down time with IX Web Hosting, and I didn’t find anything. Their data centers have two backup power generators with multiple high-speed data circuits to ensure redundancy and adequate uptime for all their customers.

Downsides of IX Web Hosting.

When you look under the hood, you’ll find a few areas where IX Web Hosting appears to be lacking.

No Dedicated Hosting Options.

The first thing I noticed is that IX Web Hosting does not offer dedicated hosting. This does not bode well for people who are looking for an e-commerce site. Although you may run your e-commerce site using IX Web Hosting, I would extend a word of caution if you plan on growing your business. If your business grows large enough, you’re going to need a dedicated hosting option. Because IX Web Hosting does not offer dedicated hosting, you may find yourself switching Web hosting companies somewhere down the line.

Plesk and cPanel Cost Extra.

Plesk and cPanel are two administrative features that people use to control their Web hosting experience. For some of the lower level packages, Plesk and cPanel costs extra. Because Plesk and cPanel are industry standards, people are familiar with them. For these lower level packages, IX Web Hosting has their own administrative interface, so it’s not necessarily crucial that you have either Plesk or cPanel. If you want the familiarity of one of these interfaces, and you have one of the lower level packages, you may find yourself paying a little bit extra for it.

Bottom Line.

For apersonal blog or a smaller website, I find IX Web Hosting to be a perfect fit. However, if I ever create an e-commerce site that I intend on growing to the point where I might need dedicated hosting, I may be looking elsewhere. It is not always a pleasant experience to take a relatively large website and shut it down for a little while to switch hosting companies. I would want the experience to be seamless – and that’s not something that I would have at my disposal with IX Web Hosting.
