Best Features of ‘A Small Orange ‘Hosting

As one of the few companies that have more going for them than against them, A Small Orange packs exactly what you expect out of a hosting company – with a couple of extra cherries on top.

Several Shared Plans to Choose from

A Small Orange does a superb job of trying to make sure that you get what you pay for. Instead of having the standard small, medium, and large plans, they divided their offerings to try to fit your needs. If you only need a small website because you only want to host a couple of pictures from last year’s vacation for the rest of your family to see, then you don’t need to pay as much for your hosting as the next guy who’s starting an e-commerce website.

Honest Web Hosting

There’s a lot to be said for consistency. A marketing ploy that I’ve seen people use time and time again is to underpromise and overdeliver. That may work in some instances, but A Small Orange disagrees. They deliver exactly what they promise without trying to oversell you on things you do not need. Furthermore, they use their resources better than some of their competitors. If you pay for a set amount of resources on a server, that’s exactly what you’ll get – without sacrificing quality if you maximize what you use.

All Types of Hosting

A Small Orange has a plan for almost everybody. They do have the standard shared, VPS, and dedicated hosting plans, but they also have several options within each plan. Furthermore, they have a special category for business owners who are trying to start an e-commerce website. The business plans include a free SSL certificate with every plan. Oh, yeah – they also have reseller hosting.

Unlimited Email Addresses from Each Domain

Email addresses should be standard for many hosting providers. However, they are not. In fact, I’ve seen some hosting companies who don’t even offer email at all. It’s nice to see that A Small Orange not only provides email, but they offer an unlimited amount of email addresses for each domain. That means if you start an e-commerce website, each and every employee can have his or her own email address, complete with their own credentials.

Fantastic Selection of Web Applications

This is where A Small Orange goes above and beyond the normal capabilities and responsibilities of hosting companies. When you sign up with A Small Orange, you can have WordPress installed with a single click. Do you want a calendar? Excellent choice! Install your calendar, shopping cart software, and more with A Small Orange’s fantastic selection of Web applications.

Excellent Support

Their support staff is knowledgeable and fast. You have access to 24/7 phone and email support. They have live chat as well, but that is not available on the weekends. However, even their weekend support is fast. Plus, they truly go out of their way to solve all of your issues.

Company Dedicated to Going Green

A Small Orange matches 150 percent of its energy consumption with renewable energy certificates. Furthermore, they allow their employees to telecommute – they work from home. That means they don’t need to be paying for a large amount of office space, plus it keeps more cars off the road. Employees who telecommute tend to have higher morale and are happier – and it shows in their customer service.

Downsides to ‘A Small Orange ‘Hosting

Right when we thought that A Small Orange hosting was perfect, we found a few things that we thought they could improve on. Here’s what we found.

Disk Space and Bandwidth are Limited on All Plans

They place a data cap on all of their plans. When a hosting provider offers unlimited bandwidth and disk space, they don’t expect their customers to use an obscene amount of resources. However, by placing these limits on people, it’s more of a mental barrier that can add a stress factor, causing people to keep a close watch on how much bandwidth and disk space are actually using.

Can’t Create Mobile Sites

A Small Orange offers website-building software. However, what they don’t do is provide any software that can help people build mobile versions of their websites. With more and more people browsing the Internet using mobile devices, you would think that A Small Orange would realize that it would be in their best interest to offer an easy way for people to build mobile websites.

Bottom Line

A Small Orange goes above and beyond to make sure that they have not only what their customers need, but what they want. From a customer’s perspective, this can really work in their favor. However, when we find that we can’t create mobile sites, it actually makes us want to go look elsewhere.
