Impressive List of Features

One.com offers some features that are competitive with other hosting solutions and some features which are unique. They offer a unique Bix solution with every hosting package. The Bix solution provides you with real-time synchronization, music streaming features, filesharing features, and ever-impressive mobile access features.

Simply the fact that this comes standard with every package is impressive in and of itself. However, some of the more competitive features include Google AdWords. If you spend $25 and Google AdWords credits, one.com will give you an additional $75 worth of credits.

They’re more than affordable

One.com is impressively affordable. In fact, I’ve never seen one as cheap as this. That’s not to say that they're cheap service either – that’s just to say that they don’t charge very much.

Their starter package starts at $.25 per month. That is one-quarter of a dollar – not a typo.

Perfect for basic websites, blogs, and email hosting, this $.25 per month will get you 15GB of storage, a single database, a single domain, and SSL capabilities – something crucial for e-commerce sites.

Even their business package, which is one of their more expensive packages, starts at $6 per month. I can’t think of anyone else that offers over 500GB of storage, eight CPU cores (for a shared hosting account), multiple databases, multiple domains, and SSL and SSH capabilities for that price.

Excellent Uptime

For many people, before they decide on a hosting company, they need to know about the uptime. All too often, far too many hosting companies are guilty of not providing the best uptime. When a website is down – especially an e-commerce website – having a website that is down will cost people money. When it costs people money like that, you end up with unhappy customers – any way you cut it. It is far better for someone to charge extra when bandwidth is exceeded than it is to shut the site down. However, One.com won’t shut your site down because they offer unlimited bandwidth.

One.com doesn’t advertise its uptime. It took a little bit of digging to find, but I found that instead of an uptime guarantee, they posted their uptime stats. Over a period of 979 days, they’ve experienced 99.99 percent uptime.

Free First Year for Basic Package

Now, I’ve already covered how affordable One.com really is. However, the one thing I didn’t mention is that if you go for the Basic package, they will give you your first year for free. That’s right – $0.00. If you ever needed more motivation to go with a hosting company, this is it. No other hosting company offers this.

24/7 Year-Round Support

This is a critical feature for doing business internationally. While many hosting companies do offer this 24/7 year-round support feature, many of them do not. In fact, some of them only provide support during their own local banking hours. In other words, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time – wherever they may be located. This is unacceptable for many people who are international customers who need support. If your website is down and you need help, the last thing you want to do is be up at 3 o’clock in the morning just because that’s when they’re open.

The only downside to this is that it is web-based, live chat only. Of course, for many people that’s not an issue – live chat is preferred over long hold times on the phone. However, not offering support over the telephone can be a deterrent for some people.

Downsides of One.com Hosting

As awesome as One.com hosting is, we did find some areas severely lacking. In fact, many of these are deal breakers.

Shared Hosting Only

One.com offers shared hosting only. That means that you cannot get dedicated server options, VPS server options, or any cloud hosting options. Many of these features are critical for anyone who builds an e-commerce site and needs to expand.

If you’re building an e-commerce site and you plan to expand, you may want to look elsewhere only because when the need arises, you’ll be forced to switch hosting providers. However, if you plan on keeping a small blog, then this really isn’t an issue.

Bottom Line

There really wasn’t too much to not like about One.com hosting. I didn’t even cover some things – like what their impressive feature list looked like (22 awesome features and counting – check them out here). That’s just the free features that come standard on every account. All in all, One.com would have won my heart if it weren’t for the fact that they don’t offer any other types of hosting options other than shared hosting.
